DAMO
SUZUKI
The unique freeform singer interviewed in Sheffield 18.11.06
As part of Damo
Suzuki's three day visit to Sheffield UK, he kindly agreed to be
interviewed. Friday 17th november was the gig at The Boardwalk.
The next day after a long walk in the peak district on a beautiful
crisp autumn afternoon followed by a pint of Guiness in the Little
John, Hathersage we attended the evening's 'Rare and Racy Benefit
gig'. An unsuspecting young rock band were pleasantly suprised to
have Damo sing in his unique style for a few great minutes, much
to the elation of the crowd. Arriving back at the house at 11pm
we remembered the interview plan... Damo looks a 'little sozzled'..but
was very clear.. it's a very frank and personal interview, covering
many aspects of his music and views on life. He had asked me not
to ask predictable questions and not being a professional interviewer
I stumbled just a little, but was in very good hands and we covered
a lot of ground in an hour. The interview is in three parts for
ease of downloading. Thanks Damo! - Moodi

The
promoter wishes to offer sincere apologies to the people that turned up
for Here and Now. Due to miscommunication between venue manager and promoter,
ticket sales were at one point deemed too low to make it economically
viable. Here and Now were pulled by the promoter only 24 hours before
the gig. Unfortunately a few hours later a call from the venue with an
'updated' amount of sold tickets meant it could go ahead but alas, the
band had cancelled all travel arrangements and some people had received
refunds; it was beyond reversal. We all make mistakes. I for one was gutted
and felt genuinely sorry for all the fans that came to see the amazing
Here and Now. Some people opted for refunds but most stayed for the great
Damo Suzuki and were also rewarded with free entry to the upcoming Here
& Now gig. (only if you gave your name at the box on the night!).
The band have said they will still come and plans for an early '07 UK
tour are afoot. I saw them in Amsterdam at the Gong Uncon on 3rd Nov and
they were stunning, to say the least, maintaining the 'floating free'
vibe and bringing also a great new heavy electronic / space-rock feeling,
with all musicians on topmost form.

"The free
festival movement of the 1970's was utopia in action. Food, music,
fun, all cost nothing. you could do what you liked as long as you
didn't harm anyone. The sun shone in the Midsummer month. There
were streets and stages and shops and side-shows and the centre
point was a great pyramid that was the main stage.
Here & Now were the musical heroes of the free festivals, and
they established the free music circuit which was a reaction to
the general unpleasantness and greed of society and the music business
in particular.
The band travelled in a bus which had been converted into a living
and sleeping and eating accommodation. They owned their own P.A.
and equipment truck and everyone worked for free so touring expenses
were non-existent. The roadies and the girls took a collection,
and the £50 or whatever was enough to fuel the band and bus
to the next gig." From: herenow.be
