Vibracathedral Orchestra / The Gated Community / Chora. Lantern Theatre - Nether Edge, Sheffield. (A Haimenfeldman Event) film[...]
11/11/05

Each of these 'Haimenfeldman' gigs (Chora's promo arm) is extremely varied in content really. We start with Chora, who by the end of the night I personally wish had headlined. A 20 min set of their (better than usual) psychedelic ear blistering; perfect.. (See film above, quick before they ask me to take it down!) Then Mick Beck, Martin Archer, Jon Jasnoch, Charlie Collins and 8 or so other sound freaks entertain us with bizarre and engaging squeaks, twirks (just made that up) thumps and improvs for a good 40 mins, including the mad whispering of names of muso-celebs during 'Forty Names' and a final on the hop composition 'Highs & Lows' complete with balloon popping...ok it made me laugh in bits but I get the sense that the facial contortions eluding to band esoterica might just remain that...but innocently engaging all the same. Then headlining VCO - I am swept along for a 45 minute track of Hawkwind cum Doors cum Beefheart cum Hare Krishna cum dunno really but I feel I ought to be on mescalin..well I want to dance, or something, it was pretty good stuff actually. Trouble is I'm in a 1930's 96 seat matchbox theatre and apparently the manager is yet again getting in a huff about the volume or time contstraints. Pity he can't organise something as simple as house lights down when an act comes on and vice-versa, resulting in a five quid a head fuck-up at every interval, falling over bags, detracting from act opening etc. etc. I filmed it all and just watching it now enjoying it, espec. VCO...will put it on the wibbly soonerly. (Now available - see Film section. Ed) Oh, and yes all you guys will get a copy at some point.
